Cooking Posts - 2014

Back in 2014, I began photographing the occasional meal that I produced at home. Not everything I ate of course, but any time something was a bit more interesting or out of the ordinary. I still do this fairly regularly. This post documents all the home cooking photos I took throughout the year in 2014, as well as a small number of misc. food photos I took. 


Shortribs and Risotto


Ajo Blanco

This was the first time I made this wonderful Spanish soup, sort of a predecessor to gazpacho. It's made with stale bread, grapes, almonds, olive oil, water, and a splash of vinegar. Delicious and refreshing on a hot summer day! 


Cheddar, Bacon, & Chive Biscuits w/ Habanero Jam

I baked these for an office function and they were a huge hit!

Pancake is my family's term - sort of a flat hushpuppy made from the leftover dredging ingredients.

Crumbs Cupcakes

This was right after the bankruptcy was announced, so at the time, I thought these were going to be the last Crumbs I would ever eat!


Hot Dogs

If you tune in regularly, you'll see that Leah and I love making "fancy" hot dogs. This was an early version, wrapped in bacon and topped with jalapeños, avocado, cilantro, and a variety of sauces.

Con Ed shut off the gas for two weeks in our building following a tenant-reported leak (which turned out to not be a leak). This was the first meal Leah and I cooked after finally getting our gas back. 


Satan's Circus

2014 was also the year that I started taking a serious interest in cocktails. This fine example, from the NoMad's vast repertoire, and consisting of rye whisky, Cherry Heering, aperol, chilies, and lemon juice, was one of the first that I acquired ingredients for so I could make at home.
