NoMad Bar

Here's the first of a NoMad Bar double-feature: I visited twice in the same month, once just for fun with my cousin and his wife, and again for their festive New Year's Eve dinner. Both times were a ton of fun and delicious as always!

NoMad Bar
1170 Broadway & 28th St, New York, NY

Left: Chicken Liver Mousse, Pickled Vegetables, Toast
Right: Carrot Tartare. Quail Egg, Sunflower Seeds, Rye Crisps

While the mousse was about as good as you'd expect, the carrot tartare was the real star here, and remains (in my opinion) the single best thing on the NoMad Bar's menu.

Charcuterie

This assortment of charcuterie, on the other hand, was a major miss. While each bite was tasty, the portions felt so small as to be almost laughable, especially at $36. This would have been a small offering for two people to share, let alone four.

Humm Dog
Bacon-Wrapped, Celery Relish, Black Truffles, Gruyère

The wonderful Humm Dog is always on our short-list of items to order.

Chicken Pot Pie
Foie Gras, Black Truffle Butter

This incredible pot pie, modeled after the signature chicken with foie gras and truffles next door at the NoMad Restaurant, is sadly no longer on the menu (as of this writing in 2019). While it was still there, this ode to decadence was the star of the NoMad Bar's menu.

French Fries
Herbs, Lemon & Pommery Mayo

I always recommend ordering the fries. It's a very generous portion for a relatively reasonable price. Plus they taste great - like McDonald's fries tossed with herbs.

Chicken Burger
Foie Gras, Crispy Skin, Black Truffle Mayo

Between the beef and chicken burger options, I find the chicken to be superior. The burgers are admittedly a bit small here, but they make up for it in outstanding flavor.

Hot Chocolate
Fernet Branca, Green Chartreuse, Salted Hot Chocolate, Angostura Marshmallows

The bitter, herbal flavors actually make this hot chocolate more balanced and quite satisfying to drink.
